Playa Flamingo

One of the best ways to capture the essence of Flamingo Beach in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, is with a stunning sunset. In this image the nice curves of the orange clouds, the reflections on the wet sand and the iconic house located on top of the rocks in the south end of the beach describe perfectly what Playa Flamingo is all about.

Flamingo Sunset

This sunset image was taken in Flamingo Beach, Guanacaste, Costa Rica. This was the best sunset I saw during my trip and was a truly magical moment to capture. I felt joy and excitement while admiring nature's beauty.

Smooth Sunset

This image is from Flamingo Beach, Guanacaste Costa Rica. When I captured this scene the colors in the sky were not intense, so I decided to shoot focused on the "smooth mood" of the flowing water and the blue tones of the ocean. The log as a foreground element was the main reason why I decided to compose the scene from that location, down low and close. Notice the fine details of the sand, the rich texture of the log and the soft transition from the sand to the water. The final result is a soothing and tranquil seascape.

Cloud Forest Glow

It was raining on and off during the afternoon of this incredible sunset at the Costa Rica Cloud Forest. Since the weather was changing so much, I was keeping an eye on the sunset because usually "bad" weather can transform into amazing pictures. Sure enough, the rain stopped and I couldn't believe what I saw from my cabin, it looked like the mountains were on fire. I ran to a viewpoint where I was able to witness this amazing sunset. The rain in the distance was reflecting the orange warm light from the sun, creating this wonderful glow that lasted less than three minutes. A big part of Nature Photography is being at the right place at the right time.

Light and Darkness

Sunrise from Vermilion Lakes in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada. It was a cold, snowy, winter morning with a sky full of clouds before sunrise. However, the sky cleared up letting the sun shine through the left side of the composition. On the right, dark clouds were moving fast towards Mount Rundle covering it in a dramatic way. I decided to name this image "Light and Darkness" because of the great contrast. The movement of the clouds creates a dynamic scene and the lake a perfect mirror of this wonderful moment.

Lake O'Hara Sunset

Contemplating sunset at Lake O'Hara is such an outstanding experience. You feel a great appreciation for nature standing in front of the lake and surrounded by the mountains tinted in red and orange. Watching the light fade while listening to the sound of the flowing water in this amazing scene makes you feel blessed but insignificant at the same time.

Castle on Fire

The magnificent Castle Mountain is located in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada. This image was taken next to the Bow River at sunset, the temperature was -15C. For this composition I wanted to maximize the reflections on the water transforming the flow of the river into a smooth mirror.

A Secret Place

While camping at Lake O'Hara I was looking for a hidden and different spot for sunrise. This small lake was the perfect spot with rocks, trees and reflections of Mount Cathedral. I found it one afternoon after hiking, and the next morning I got up early to capture this scene. The mountains glowing with warm light, calm water with mirror reflections and morning fog make this a beautiful fall landscape. Yoho National Park, British Columbia, Canada.

Bow Lake

Bow Lake is one of my favorite places to stop along the Icefields Parkway in Banff, Alberta, Canada. While walking along the shore I selected this spot to compose a scene with rocks in the foreground and reflections of the mountains on the water. Notice the soft light on Crowfoot Mountain and the moving clouds as a result of the long exposure used.

Hungabee Lake

Hungabee Lake is located near Lake O’Hara in Yoho National Park, British Columbia, Canada. We started hiking early in the morning the Alpine Route. When I composed this scene I was amazed by all the details present. Different shapes, forms, colors, patterns and textures from the grass, mud, rocks, water, trees, mountains and the snow. All under a blue sky with a few clouds.

Moraine Lake

Moraine Lake is located in The Valley of the Ten Peaks, Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada. It is one of the most photographed places in the country. The landscape is charming with the amazing blue lake that is surrounded by big rocks and trees. The mountains in the back covered by fresh snow are softly reflected on the water. The morning I took this image the sunrise wasn't vibrant, however the cloudy morning gave a nice mood to the final image.

Lake Agnes in Fall

Lake Agnes is a great place to photograph during fall. For this composition I wanted to have a clean foreground with reflections on the water. The golden larches on either side of the image form leading lines to the center of the scene, which are accentuated with the mirror reflections on the water. This creates an almost perfect geometric view that is drastically contrasted with Devil's Thumb peaks, rising dramatically from the lake's shore on the background. Lake Agnes is located in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada. The trail starts from the shore of the famous Lake Louise.

Maligne Lake

Long exposure scene of Maligne Lake surrounded by the rockies in Jasper, Alberta, Canada. This image was taken from the Bald Hills trail. It is amazing what you can capture in a scene under different weather conditions.

Fall is Here

The Opabin Plateau in Lake O'Hara is truly a magical place. It is located in Yoho National Park, British Columbia, Canada. You can find multiple lakes and small ponds like this one with astonishing views of the mountains. This is the perfect way to illustrate fall with larches turning from green to yellow, fresh snow on the mountains, a blue sky and reflections on the water. A crisp and peaceful image.

Kokanee Lake

Kokanee Lake is located in Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park in British Columbia, Canada. The hike to the lake is approximately 4km with great views of the valley. The intense green color of the lake is really nice, which it's fed by the Kokanee Glacier.

Spirit Island

Spirit Island is considered a mysterious and magical place; it is located in Maligne Lake, Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. It can be reached only by boat or canoe. An iconic place of the Canadian Rockies surrounded by magnificent peaks, known as the Hall of the Gods. I hope to go back again and spend more time photographing and admiring this unique area.

Wiwaxy Gap

One of the main viewpoints of the Alpine Circuit hike in Lake O'Hara is Wiwaxy Gap. As you hike the steep path from the lake, you have great views of the valley and the mountains surrounding it. On this image you can see the Cataract Valley under a blue sky. Lake O'Hara is located in Yoho National Park, British Columbia, Canada.

Koocanusa Blue

The blue hour after sunset in Lake Koocanusa, British Columbia, Canada. This wasn't a colorful sunset, but the fast moving clouds were a great subject for a long exposure image. The final product is a scene with great contrast and mood.

My Yellow Tree

After hiking to Lake McArthur, I decided to take a break before defining from where I was going to photograph this amazing place. While I was having a snack, I saw this small yellow larch with tints of orange and still some green on its needles. I also noticed how it contrasted with the nice background of the blue lake and the fresh snow on Mount Biddle. That's how I decided to take a portrait of "My Yellow Tree"!

Lake McArthur Autumn

Lake McArthur is located in Yoho National Park, British Columbia, Canada. This is one of the many fascinating lakes around Lake O'Hara. Its strong and deep blue color is amazing. The landscape makes you feel like you are in paradise; surrounded by mountains, trees, wildflowers and marmots!

Three Sisters

When I think of Canmore, the Three Sisters are one of the first things that come to my mind. Canmore is located in Alberta, Canada, and it is my favorite town in the province. These three peaks next to each other are a beautiful scene to see and photograph. It was a windy fall afternoon with many clouds in the sky. The sun in this scene is behind the mountain on the far right, adding great contrast to the sky which fades into darker clouds to the left. Despite the strong wind I was able to capture nice reflections of the sky and the mountains on the water. Note the soft light on the trees at the base of the first peak. The light conditions of this landscape and the moody weather were the main factors that made me decide to develop it in black and white.

Sunwapta Falls

Sunwapta Falls are located in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. The two main spots are the upper and lower falls. I decided to hike down to the lower falls where I was able to compose this vertical image of the flowing water.

Seven Veils

The Seven Veils are seven falls that feed Lake O'Hara in Yoho National Park, British Columbia, Canada. You can see them from the lake's shoreline and there is a short hike that takes you to a viewpoint where you can see them to your right, from where I took this image. Listening to the powerful flow of the water is a refreshing experience. The sun shined through the clouds for a brief period of time, illuminating the falls when I captured this moment.

Catarata La Cangreja

Catarata La Cangreja is a waterfall located in Rincón de la Vieja National Park, Guanacaste Costa Rica. Hiking to this magic waterfall was a great experience, it takes like two and a half hours. The high dynamic range in this scene and the wind were the main challenges when trying to capture flowing water and sharp focus in one single image.
